Course Resources
CIS Courses
Central Lakes College faculty have developed a list of courses that are offered through the College
in the Schools program. Courses include both liberal arts or transfer courses and technical courses.
A high school wishing to offer a course not on the list, must work with the CIS Director to determine if
the course is appropriate for the CIS program.

Student Learning Assessment
The Central Lakes College Student Learning Assessment Program assurances state that students
are learning and being prepared sufficiently in their college curriculum.
As a way of measuring student learning, the Student Learning Program assesses student learning in
the classroom and at the completion of their program of study. In addition to classroom tests and
graded assignments, students may be required to complete projects, take an inventory, develop a
portfolio, or take a comprehensive exam to measure mastery of the objectives in a course.
Instructors review the student learning assessment results and determine if changes need to be
made to the curriculum or the method of instruction.
Changes that enhance the curriculum and learning environment directly relate to expected increases
in student learning and are part of a continuous progress improvement model.

Professional Development
As a CIS instructor, your high school has agreed to support your professional development activities.
In some schools support may be financial support for college courses taken in a CIS instructional
field, while others provide release time to attend workshops or college courses.
Regardless of your situation, a Professional Development Plan is critical for your development as a
College in the Schools instructor. The Professional Development Plan format and expectations are
identified in the following document.
Professional Development Plan (pdf)

Role of the Collaborator
Central Lakes uses college faculty to provide on-going support to the high school instructors. The
role of the collaborator is to ensure that the CIS course demonstrates the same content, learning
environment, assessment, and pedagogy as other college courses. Collaborators assist with CIS
instructor credential reviews, professional development plans, help prepare course curriculum and
assignments and provide on-going overall support.
CIS collaborators are available by phone, email and make a minimum of two high school campus
visits each term. Upon completion of the CIS course, the collaborator completes a Collaborator
Worksheet.
