High School Counselors, those working with the College in the Schools students, are the key to student's success. Counselors provide advising for course selection, assist with student registration, conduct student assessment, submit student appeals and help determine if course waivers are needed.
As a student or parent of a CIS high school, your high school Counselor is your first line of contact to the College in the Schools program.

Appeals and Waivers
Admissions Appeals
In rare cases, a student wishes to be admitted to the CIS program but does not have the required GPA (3.0 for juniors and 2.5 for seniors). Students who are within a few points of the required GPA, such as a junior with a 2.7/3.0 or a senior with a 2.3.2.5, and whose parents and counselor feel they can be successful may appeal. To appeal for admission to the CIS program students must use the CIS Appeal form, attach the required documents and submit the form to the CIS staff.
Course Waivers
Students who have been admitted to the CIS program may decide they wish to take a course that requires a prerequisite such as a math or reading score. If the prerequisite is an assessment score and the student is within a few points of the required score, such as a 75/78 in reading or a 62/65 in math, the student should meet with the CIS instructor and counselor to determine if they have the
skills to be successful. The Course Waiver form must be signed by the student, the CIS instructor and the CLC collaborator to be approved.
