Living Legacy Gardens

flowersAbout Us

The mission of Living Legacy Gardens is to serve the horticulture needs of the people of Minnesota through innovative and resourceful demonstration and education.

The Gardens are located at the Central Lakes College Agricultural Center 2 miles north of Staples, Minnesota. The Gardens demonstrate perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs, vines, fruits, native plants, and trees hardy to USDA Zone 3 as well as various landscaping styles.

The landscape design was developed in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Landscape Design Program and Meadowbrook Landscaping. Professionals, along with community and student volunteers have implemented the design to create beautiful and educational gardens.
Living Legacy Gardens is supported by area businesses, service groups, individuals, the U of M Central Region Partnership, Staples-Motley Community Education and Central Lakes College.

Enjoy a peaceful stroll through the Gardens or join us for the educational workshops that are offered throughout the season.
Visit often - The Gardens are always open and constantly changing!!

Volunteers

Living Legacy Gardens depends on the generous help of volunteers of all ages. Most of what has been accomplished at the Gardens has been done by volunteers. As the gardens grow, we continue to depend upon a greater number of volunteers. Please call 218-894-5161 for more information.

Work nights – Tuesday evenings, May 1 – Sept. 25, 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Everyone is welcome, regardless of age or experience. Join a dedicated group of volunteers who come to have fun, socialize, and share their skills while contributing to the garden. Please call 218-894-5161 for more information.

We also prepare several large mailings during the year. Volunteers are needed to assist in getting these mailings out in February/March, July, and October/November. If you would like to help, please call 218-894-5161 for more details.

Instructors needed

We are looking for Master Gardeners, Garden Club Members and other horticulture experts who are willing to teach classes on horticulture topics for our future Twilight Workshops, our annual Horticulture Days and other events. If you are willing to share your knowledge by teaching, please contact 218-894-5161.
