Highlights 

The 2010 Central Lakes College baseball team garnered a number of post season awards. Kyle Scahaible[Brainerd-Baxter] was chosen to the All-Central Division team. Schailbe, a shortstop and pitcher, hit .304 and drove in 11 runs. On the mound, he was the leading pitcher for the Raiders with a 3-3 record and a 2.18 ERA in 45 innings pitched. Additionally the following plyers were chosen to the All-State Academic team:

Coach: Pat HeldPat Held

 

Coach Pat Held begins his second year as the head CLC baseball coach. Held was the assistant coach for the Raiders from 1997-2005 working with three different head coaches during that time period. In 2000, he was on the staff that helped lead CLC to the only appearance in the school’s history in the NJCAA World Series. Coach Held is a baseball lifer who has coached at every level of baseball from T-Ball to the NJCAA. During his thirty six years in baseball coaching, he has been the varsity coach at Motley and Staples Motley high schools, the player-manager of the Motley Mets amateur baseball team, and the coach of Babe Ruth, VFW and American Legion teams in Motley, Staples, and St. Augusta in addition to his work at CLC. He has coached at baseball camps, spoken at clinics, and been a volunteer assistant coach in Texas while on vacation. He has twice been chosen to coach in the Lions’ All-Star Series and was named District 24 Coach of The Year in 1988. As a veteran coach, he brings a great deal of experience to his current role with the Raiders.

Coach Held is a retired Social Studies and History teacher from the Staples Motley school system. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History/education/coaching from St. John’s University in 1973 and a Master’s Degree in Education from Hamline University in 1996. He retired from active teaching in 2007 and subsequently served as the interim principal at Sacred Heart Area School in Staples for one year. He and his wife Carolyn live on beautiful Lake Shamineau just south of Motley. His hobbies include reading, golfing, working out, playing guitar, and being active in church and community activities.
