Post-Secondary Enrollment Option

The Post Secondary Enrollment Options program (PSEO) was established as an enrichment program for high school juniors and/or seniors. All PSEO students are expected to perform to the standards to which the college’s non-PSEO students are held accountable. These include policies regarding academic standing and student conduct.

PSEO Student Admission Policy
The following requirements apply to high school students participating in the Post Secondary Enrollment Options program. These programs allow high school students to receive high school credit for completed collegiate courses and subsequently may apply for post-secondary credit upon entering college. The PSEO program is open to all 11th or 12th grade students enrolled in public, private, or home schools who meet the following admission criteria.

PSEO Admissions Criteria
1. A 12th grade student is eligible and may be considered for enrollment if the high school certifies that the student is at or above the 50th percentile in class rank or has a G.P.A. of 2.5 or greater. An 11th grade student is eligible and may be considered for enrollment if the high school certifies the student as being at or above the 66th percentile in class rank or has a G.P.A. of 3.0 or greater.
2. Students meeting the above classification must participate in the College’s Academic Skills Assessment. The Vice President of Student Affairs or designee may decide against enrollment on the basis of scores obtained in the Academic Skills Assessment.
a. PSEO students completing the college assessment must pass 2 out of the 3 basic skill areas (reading, writing & math) or provide documentation of an ACT composite score of 24 or higher in each test to verify College Readiness.
b. Must be accepted for Admissions to Central Lakes College by the 5th day of the start of the term.
c. An exception to the above criteria may be approved by the Vice President of Student Affairs based on a signed statement by the high school principal or other authorized school official indicating that the student could benefit from college courses and is recommended for admission.

PSEO Admissions Process
1. Students applying for the PSEO option must provide the following information to the Admissions Department:
a. CLC Application for Admissions
b. Completed PSEO form signed by the high school official and parent (if under 18).
c. Current high school transcript
2. PSEO applicants are not required to submit the $20 application fee.
3. Verification of College Readiness, completion of assessment or submissions of ACT documentation.
4. PSEO students must attend a college Orientation/Registration session.

PSEO Enrollment Information
1. PSEO students shall not enroll in developmental courses (Liberal or Technical Education courses numbered below 1000).
2. PSEO students will register on assigned registration days according to total credits earned. Students must complete a post secondary option form each semester, which must be signed by a high school official and parent (if under 18) and a Central Lakes college counselor. This form must be submitted to the Registration Department.
3. CLC requires PSEO students to pay fees, textbooks and materials for Health 1502, and all courses with prefixes of UWDV and AVIA. PSEO students taking courses that require the purchase of a laptop computer or tool set will be responsible for the cost.
4. PSEO students are not eligible for financial aid, CLC Scholarships, or work-study.
5. PSEO students must work with their local high school to determine what books and supplies may be purchased through the CLC bookstore. PSEO students may be required to return textbooks to the high school upon completion of courses.
6. PSEO student’s high school receives semi-annual progress reports/transcripts from CLC.

PSEO Admissions Appeal Process
PSEO applicants who do not meet the admissions requirements and are denied acceptance have the right to appeal the decision to the college. Applicants must submit their appeal by noon on the fifth day of the semester.
1. What constitutes an Appeal? An appeal must include:
a. A statement by the student in writing defining how they can be academically successful as a PSEO student at CLC.
b. A letter of recommendation from the high school counselor or principal stating the student can be academically successful at CLC and that the high school supports the student’s admission to the college.
2. The appeal must be submitted to the Vice President of Student Affairs by noon on the fifth day of the semester in which the application is seeking admissions. Appeals received after this deadline will not be considered for the current semester. Notification of the decision will be sent to the student and the high school counselor/principal no later than the end of the fifth day of the semester.
3. The Appeal must be sent to:

Wendy Schluender

Students wishing to receive disability services must provide the Office of Disabilities with a current assessment and/or IEP documentation. Students with disabilities, who are appealing a denial for admissions, may provide letters of support from their Special Education teacher.
